Changing the Temporary Residence Permit for Work Purposes

Do you hold a temporary residence permit for work in Romania, and its validity is approaching its end? Below, we present the steps you need to follow to renew it.

First, you should be aware that the application for renewing the residence permit must be submitted at least 30 days before the expiration date of the current permit. Adhering to this deadline is essential; otherwise, the competent Territorial Immigration Directorate may find that you are staying illegally in Romania, which could lead to penalties for the applicant.

The procedure for renewing the residence permit is similar to that for obtaining it. In this regard, the foreign citizens must submit the following documents to the Territorial Immigration Directorate:

  • Passport
  • Proof of legal possession of the accommodation (this category may include Sale contract, Rental contract, or Loan agreement)
  • Medical certificate indicating that the applicant does not suffer from diseases that could pose a public health risk
  • Individual employment contract and any additional documents
  • Proof of salary – This proof can be provided either through the Individual Employment Contract or the last additional document modifying the salary. Additionally, a certificate issued by the employer indicates the applicant's current salary can also be submitted. The foreign worker's salary must be at least equal to the national minimum gross salary.
  • Proof of payment for the two fees. This primarily includes a consular fee of 120 euros (equivalent in lei) and a fee of 259 lei representing the cost of the residence permit.

To ensure that the renewal of the temporary residence permit proceeds smoothly, it is important to prepare all necessary documents in advance. If you need further guidance or encounter uncertainties, a specialized attorney can provide the necessary support for an efficient and legally correct process.
