
According to labor legislation, the following days are considered public holidays and therefore non-working days for all employees, both in the public and private sectors:
- January 1st and 2nd;
- January 6 - Baptism of the Lord (Epiphany);
- January 7 - Synaxis of Saint John the Baptist;
- January 24 - Union Day of the Romanian Principalities;
- Good Friday, the last Friday before Easter;
- The first and second day of Easter;
- May 1st
- June 1st
- The first and second day of Pentecost;
- Assumption of the Virgin Mary;
- November 30 - Saint Andrew the First-Called, Protector of Romania
- December 1st
- The first and second day of Christmas;
- Two days for each of the 3 annual religious holidays, declared as such by legal religious denominations, other than Christian, for persons belonging to these denominations.
By Government Decision, additional free days can be established that either precede or follow the above-mentioned public holidays, known as "bridging days."
There may be some workplaces where activity cannot be interrupted, and consequently, employees cannot be granted free days on public holidays due to the nature of the production process or the specific nature of the activity.
Employees who work on public holidays are entitled to a bonus to their basic salary, which cannot be less than 100% of the basic salary corresponding to the work performed during normal working hours.
